Death Valley National Park, Things To Do, Camping, Facts, Hotels & Map

Ruggedly beautiful and sublime, are just some of the words you can use to describe the national park. Located only about two hours west from Las Vegas in California, this park is a land of extremes. It is the hottest, driest, and lowest national park in the country. It is so low that parts of it sit 282 feet (86 meters) below sea level.

The park is known for its remarkable drought and sweltering summer temperatures, yet each of the extremes unfolds some of the most beautiful scenes. The park’s towering peaks are covered in snow. With sporadic rainstorms, the park comes alive with the bloom of wildflowers. The verdant oases that dot the park are home to small fish species and a source of tranquility for the wild animals. It is almost paradoxical how life is present for a park with such a morbid name.

Guided tours are some of the best ways to explore Death Valley National Park. These tours range from specialized paleontology tours to daily walking tours, hikes, and even camping adventures. The paleontology tours are set on a remote part of the park, which is generally closed off to the public. These long-day tours are held on specific days during winter and spring, and participants are required to be moderately fit as it involves lots of hiking on uneven terrain.

Daily walking programs are also available between December and March. They incorporate the following activities: the Golden Canyon Walk, Mesquite Flat Dunes Ranger Talk, Badwater Ranger Talk, and the Harmony Borax Works Ranger Talk. There were tours to Scotty’s Castle previously, but this has since stopped following the damage caused by flash floods back in 2015.

Camping is a popular activity at Death Valley National Park, so look out for different camping sites and pitch your tent for the adventure of a lifetime.
