Slide Rock State Park

Slide Rock State Park is a popular outdoor destination located in Sedona, earning its name from the slide-like creek bed located close to the property’s original homestead.

The park was formerly an apple farm that was owned by Frank L. Pendley. The orchard stood out for its ingenious irrigation system, one that is still in use today.

This park is one of the most intriguing natural destinations in Sedona and for a good reason. There are many fun water activities to indulge in, but perhaps the most popular is taking the thrilling slide down the 80-foot slippery creek and into the pool located next to the homestead. This chute acts as a natural water slide that dips into the deep pools below.

This adrenaline-packed adventure also provides stunning views of the natural surroundings. The contrast of color between the crystal clear water and Sedona’s red hues makes for a beautiful background. However, it is advisable to wear proper swimwear to avoid friction from the surface of the natural rocks.

The creek is also open for wading, floating and swimming. Visitors also get to enjoy sunbathing at the park, especially along the flatter parts of the creek. Fishing is also a popular activity at Slide Rock State Park, with an abundance of rainbow trout fish.

Away from the waters, visitors get to go hiking, wildlife watching, as well as exploring the old homestead. The park has many short trails that crisscross the park, which include the Slide Rock Route, Clifftop Nature Trail, as well as the Pendley Homestead Trail.

Pendley Homestead Trail is an easy trail that takes visitors through a part of the historic homestead. Some of the sightings along this trail include old farming equipment used onsite, the Pendley’s home, an apple packing barn, as well as the new orchard. Using this trail also gives spectacular views of Oak Creek Canyon in the distance.

Slide Rock State Park is easily accessible using Route 89A, is open daily, and admission fees do apply. Some of the amenities onsite include a gift shop, restrooms, and a display area that chronicles the farm’s history.
