Chapel of the Holy Cross

The Chapel of the Holy Cross is a Roman Catholic Chapel located among Sedona’s cliffs – designed by Marguerite Staude in the mid-20th century.

Its location between the giant boulders continues to attract visitors from different parts of the world – a chance to marvel at this man-made wonder.

The chapel’s structure seemingly protrudes from the cliffs; about four miles from the desert town of Sedona. The chapel is easily identifiable by its huge stained glass window supported by a huge cross. The chapel is located above Verde Valley, providing a panoramic view of the region.

While the Chapel is Catholic in faith, it draws in people regardless of their religious beliefs. Many who visit the chapel are infatuated with its tranquility and stunning views. Inside the chapel, the sun’s rays that pass through the stained glass window give visitors a great appreciation for the beauty found in the wilderness. The glorious views of the desert landscape make the trip to the Chapel of the Holy Cross a worthwhile adventure.

Owing to the chapel’s popularity, there tends to be heavy traffic during the day, and with limited parking, it is advisable to take the trip in the morning for a calmer and more enjoyable experience. The chapel is open daily from 10am to 5pm, except on Christmas and Easter. A prayer service is held at 5pm on Mondays, and this is ideal for Catholics who would like to combine the trip with a spiritual experience.

The Chapel of the Holy Cross can be accessed by car from Sedona, and parking is available a short distance from the chapel’s cliffside. There are no public restrooms on-site.

The chapel’s stunning beauty has made it a ‘can’t miss’ destination when touring Arizona. For visitors who want to go on a sightseeing trip, several operators offer tour packages for a seamless experience.
