Zion Riverside Walk

The Zion Riverside Walk, which is sometimes referred to as the ‘Gateway to the Narrows,’ is a wonderful hike that provides a chance to enjoy the natural scenery of the Zion National Park.

The 1.9-mile trip begins at the Temple of Sinawava, which is a natural amphitheater that marks the last stop aboard the Zion Canyon Shuttle.

From this point, the main canyon narrows down significantly, adding a mystical aura to the hike. The trail goes on for another 1.5 miles, along which visitors will get to see magnificent views of the Virgin River. One of the highlights of this hike is the different spots from where you can access the Virgin River – a perfect detour on a hot summer’s day.

The river is an adventurous spot in the park. River tubing is a fun activity on the river, and the perfect way to admire the park’s surroundings. It is not uncommon to see families lounging on the river’s banks, simply getting lost in this awe of the wondrous surroundings. It is important to note that the river’s waters can reach a near-freezing point during spring and winter, so visitors must exercise caution for their own safety.

The Zion Riverside Walk brings hikers up-close with the region’s abundant flora and fauna. Whether it is the trees that dot the landscape, or the ferns that thrive on the canyon’s walls, there is always something to enjoy along this walk. This trail is also loved for its different wildlife species, so be on the lookout for squirrels, mule deer, and even the blue heron as it wades in the river looking for fish.

The trail comes to an end at a point of the canyon that is referred to as the ‘Zion Narrows.’ This part of the hike is so closed that the river lacks any banks on both sides. Many people choose to wind up the hike at the ‘Zion Narrows,’ but for the more enthusiastic ones, there is the option of taking up the challenge of a Zion Narrows day hike.

The Zion Riverside Walk is an easy family-friendly hike that’s worth taking with the kids to see the natural beauty of Zion Canyon.
