Hopi Point, Sunrise & Sunset, Parking & Map, Grand Canyon South Rim AZ

Hopi Point is the northernmost spot on the South Rim, which allows for panoramic views of the Grand Canyon, and features a viewing area from where visitors get a whole new appreciation of the canyon’s majesty. These views stretch all the way from the iconic Havasupai Point, across the canyon to the Great Scenic Divide.

In the distance are several iconic mesas that outline the North Rim, standing out as they seemingly rise from the floor of the canyon. Right across Hopi Point lies Shiva Temple, which a rock formation that is easily identifiable by its flat top and which was named after one of the Hindu gods. Other notable mesas include the Horus Temple, the Osiris Temple, and the Isis Temple – all stunning geologic formations.

Closer to this viewing point, it is easy to spot Dana Butte – a unique stone formation located some 2000 feet below Hopi Point. Owing to the panorama and clear views, Hopi is a popular spot for enjoying the sunset. Restrooms are also available here, so you don’t have to rush off when nature calls.

Hopi Point is located 0.8 miles from Mohave Point and 0.3 miles to Powell Point. Other points of interest along Hermit Rd include Pima Point, the Monument Creek Vista, the Trailview Overlook, as well as the Village Route Transfer. The route back includes Mohave Point, which is loved for its scenic views of the Colorado River, as well as Maricopa Point.

Some of the options available to access Hopi Point include park shuttle buses, cycling, and commercial bus tours for the better part of the year. Note that private vehicles are only permitted to access the route during winter, and banned from the road for the remainder of the year.
